Those two possibilities still leave a place for flavours, I think.
Also, using NumPy internally in PyTables should not necessarily prevent
it from supporting more formats for communication with the user.
However, a more modular implementation is needed, maybe in the form of
user data format plugins or something, to restrict PyTables internals to
NumPy handling only.
