Yeah, this is a known flaw. I don't know exactly why, PyTables doesn't
like to statically link with HDF5 libraries.

Nevertheless, you can install the shared libraries anywhere and then
set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to point there. That
should be enough for keeping PyTables happy.
