Hi, I joyfully tried installing PyTables on 32-bit Win XP right with
easy_setup now only to encounter an error during installation
complaining about HDF5 not present.

So I went to the HDF5 web-site and I got highly confused by all the
different versions of HDF5, which is available.

First of all, there is HDF5 1.8.3 and 1.6.9. Ver. 1.8.3 is recommended
for new users, so I guess I should use this version. Next, there are
three different versions of HDF5 for Windows XP, 32-bits, all built
with different compilers:

Cygwin gcc, g95
VS 2005 c, c++, Intel Fortran 9.1
VS 2008 c, c++, Intel Fortran 10.1

I am at a loss which version I should choose, and i cannot find any
help/advice on the PyTables wiki.

Can you recommend one compilation over others for optimal use with PyTables?

Best wishes,

Kim Hansen
