I haven't tried installing it, but ./configure and make succeed. At
this point, my configure output is

checking for config darwin10.2.0... no
checking for config apple... found
compiler 'gcc' is GNU gcc-4.2.1
compiler 'gfortran' is GNU gfortran-4.2.3

It may be missing the gcc detection? Are you using macports? What is
the output of gcc -v?
