But "decimal align" raises the question "align with
*what*?" The answer to that is far less obvious than
it is with "left" and "right", IMO.

Also, the output of %f is *alread* "decimal aligned"
in this sense. The only difference between the
current behaviour of %f and your suggested "decimal
align" is that trailing zeroes would be suppressed.
So it would make a lot more sense to me to call it
"suppress trailing zeroes" instead.
