Unfortunately, it appears that people disagree about the value of that specific search form: some say that bringing it back as-is would be an improvement over the status quo, you seem to be saying that it would make things worse. In any case, that's "just" code. Contributions are welcome. I hope nobody seriously considers writing a package registry/repository from scratch just because the current one doesn't have a good search feature.
