You know, hashlib, the replacement for sha and md5, was only introduced in 2.5. That's bleeding-edge. I'd be happiest if sha and md5 stuck around for a few years, to give people time to support older installations of Python. After all, Mac OS X still ships with Python 2.3, and lots of Linux installations ship standard with 2.4.
