I accidentally sent this reply to Benjamin, sorry for the two copies:
I'm brand new on this list as well, so take what I say with a grain of
salt, but a group of us here at PyCon are about to start sprinting,
and they've given us some very good resources to help us get started.
Brett Cannon is leading us, and he's put up some good info meant for
the sprinters, but that should just apply anyway. You can find the
slides from his talk at:
http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~drifty/pycon/sprint_tutorial.pdf
Some important information that I took away from the slides is that
there is a view into the python bug list where you have more control
over display at:
http://www.taniquetil.com.ar/cgi-bin/pytickets.py
If you don't know what bugs to tackle, the python developers slap the
'easy' keyword on the low hanging fruit, which should help you to pick
something out.
Aside from that, they stressed that we should test test test before
submitting patches to the bugtracker...

Hi py3k,
First of all, excuse me for taking your time. I am new to the list
so, not familiar with the processes specific to the list, if any.
I am new to the list (joined a week back) but not new to Python
having
coded in it for a fair bit of time and contributed open source code
in Python,
but not yet to the Python project.
Welcome
I have been reading the py3k archives and some recent mails. I
would like to help out in some way. I am familiar with the Python
development process and has read most of the PEPs related to
Py3k. Perhaps there are some bugs to fix, some documentation to
be done, testing ... ?
Excuse me if I sound naive, but I am not sure where to start.
I checked out py3k branch, built it and have it running on my Fedora
box.
Is there a URL showing a list of tasks to start with so I can start on
something ?
Have you read all the information at http://python.org/dev/?
Have you looked at the bug tracker, http://bugs.python.org?
Did not want to start a new thread for my post, so replying to a
thread
which seemed relevant.
It would have been fine to start a new thread as I just did. It
helps keep the conversation organized.
Thanks a lot for your patience.
Best Regards
