Thanks for doing this.  In the patch, wouldn't it be good to have a
comment with a pointer to where you got the code from?  That way, in
the unlikely event someone finds a mathematical bug, we can a) check
the upstream code to see if they've fixed it already, or b) send a
patch upstream if they haven't.

Also, the patch doesn't include the extensive comments in the original
code that explain the mathematics.  Including a URL in the patch would
at least allow someone to find those comments.
