Löwis added the comment: While I agree with the principle (use wide APIs where possible), I'd like to point out that they don't work on Windows 95 (at least some don't; if you link with MSLU, you get some more to work); that was the major reason not to use them in the past. This is no issue for Python 3000, of course, since Windows 1995 is not supported anymore.
