Works for me without the u'.', too, though less usefully:

... print dirs
...

\xd0\xb8\xd0\xbc\xd1\x8f']
Maybe that doesn't work on Windows, though. I am, of course, assuming that
python3 does the right thing on Windows, but I can't imagine Victor would have
overlooked that.
