Barry A. Warsaw added the comment: I'm re-opening this because I'd like to get RM pronouncement on applying a patch to 2.7, 3.2, and 3.3 to make py_compile.py atomically rename its pyc/pyo file.
Attached is a patch for 2.7 based on importlib's approach in 3.4.
