When I commented out the fix:
$ ./python -c 'int("こんにちは")'
python: Objects/unicodeobject.c:484: _PyUnicode_CheckConsistency: Assertion
`PyUnicode_READ(kind, data, ascii->length) == 0' failed.
Aborted
I added this to test cases.
