I don't suggest to use volatile. I'm just pointing to the function causing the 
bug and I said that volatile worked for me :-)

I made my tests on:

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.0 Beta (Ootpa)
* gcc (GCC) 8.2.1 20180905 (Red Hat 8.2.1-3)
* Linux kernel 4.18.0-56.el8.ppc64le
* uname -p: ppc64le
