I don't see much traction to get this feature into Python. Only a few comments since 2005. I close the issue. The function implement is just a few lines of pure Python code. If you need it, it's easy to put it in your project. Sorry, but I'm not convinced that we really need this feature in Python. I close the issue. If you want this feature, please come back with a better rationale.
