If the tests are explicitly checking a bad fd, then IMO it makes more sense for that test to simply be avoided in debug builds and nothing of value would be left untested. OTOH, I'd also be happy with just disabling them around the 2 functions known to cause issues - anything other than leaving assertions globally disabled for the process!
