Thank you Irit. For any users who stumble on this issue: Drop down clicks in the dialog are handled by tk. Hence, this was not an IDLE issue, unlikely to be a tkinter issue, and most likely a bad tcl/tk version issue. Hence my first post. My response and the web are out of date.
