It was added one year ago in https://bugs.python.org/issue37860 But, it is not used. Right now it does not do anything. Others report that it has a lot of limitations (including financial and technical ones): https://github.com/python/cpython/pull/15288#issuecomment-579476340 Original author even proposed another solution: https://bugs.python.org/issue37860 (PR is stale) I propose to remove it.
