Essentially, the only argument for reverting this is breaking compatibility with 2.6.0 and 2.6.1. But, in the process, reverting it means breaking compatibility with 2.6.2. Since the cat is already out of the bag for 2.6.2, I think the bugfix ought to be left in-place.
