Löwis <mar...@v.loewis.de> added the comment: I think anybody willing to invest the time could acquire the appropriate knowledge, at least to determine whether it's still an issue (i.e. trying to reproduce it). To fix it, one would then need to read the source code of hostname, and find out what they do differently; strace might be sufficient already.
