David Murray <rdmur...@bitdance.com> added the comment: I've only been on the periphery of the distutils/makefile discussion, but I thought the goal was to *autogenerate* a module containing the relevant information at python build time, instead of (as now) parsing the makefile at run time. Whether or not this autogeneration involves or does not involve parsing the makefile at python build time is an orthogonal issue.
