2.6 is right out. Martin, would you please decide on whether this should be backported to 2.7 and 3.1? IMO, the rationale is flimsy (its not hard to run the test suite in *any* version) and it goes against our usual policy; however, it is also a trivial and isolated patch, making it somewhat harmless. Also note that 3.1 is very soon to be closed for anything but security fixes.
