I support Antoine here. The core may not just mean the CPython interpreter, but the stdlib module too. Simple patches (in the form of Code) is helpful before giving the commit access. I have seen Eric interacting a lot in tracker but mostly in the form of words and less code. So, I think some patches will help us all to be favorable to him too.
