Nadeem told me he was interested in getting commit rights. I deliberately don't ask about "being a long-term contributor", since participating in a FLOSS project is not like entering a marital relationship, and demanding such commitment would be, IMHO, misled. The mechanics of contribution are such that many of us probably didn't know they wanted to be long-term contributors by the time they started posting patches. (what can be expected is some kind of reactivity if you come to be the dedicated maintainer of a piece of code, but that's not what we are discussing here) A pragmatic reason for adding new developers is also that it relieves us existing developers of some of the work (of studying and committing patches from trusted people).
