Pull requests don't get much visibility from the wider community - I know I can't keep up with all the PRs submitted. Creating a thread on python-dev seems reasonable. Doing so with about a week until feature freeze seems less so. I'm not going to comment further on this specific proposal, except maybe to respond to other people's comments. I don't have enough time in the coming week to think through the implications and possibilities myself.
