In the Python world, a package is a directory with an __init__.py file. Distutils and distutils2 try to avoid confusion and call the other things “distributions”. Of course, everyone outside of the Python world thinks a distribution is an operating system that has a free kernel and a package manager. Maybe we should trade “distributions” for “bundles”.
