Add a table of contents to the FAQ.
Could it be collapsed by default?

I don't think there's an easy way to collapse it by default.
In most of the cases I anyway check the FAQ for something specific. Having a list at the top provides an overview of the questions and also an easy way to locate and jump to the right answer.

It's quite long, and redundant with the sidebar.

The list is indeed redundant, but the sidebar is not really usable here.
