Checking it frequently is a possibility. Reading http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/new-bugs-announce is another. In any case, annoucing new issues on python-dev would only flood the mailing-list and infuriate all readers. You should keep it to really important issues, or if you have a specific question to ask.
