I presume spam prevention. Most spam on python-list comes from the
read-write GG mirror.
There were also problems with Google Groups getting the reply-to headers
wrong (so if someone flipped the mirror to read-only: thank you!)
With any luck, we'll have a native web gateway later this year after
Mailman 3 is released, so posting through Google Groups will be less
desirable.
There is already a Web and NNTP gateway with Gmane:
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.python.devel
No need to rely on Google's mediocre services.
