Hi Nick, Thanks for writing this! You reminded me that it's crucial to have an ability to fully recreate generator behaviour in an iterator. Besides this being a requirement for a complete EC model, it is something that compilers like Cython absolutely need.
I'm still working on a rewrite (which is now a completely different PEP), will probably finish it today.
