I'd start by creating a working implementation, in this case. Since it doesn't require any changes to syntax or anything like that, it should be fairly straight-forward. Then open a new thread with the exact details of what you're proposing. That way, people can try it out, and decide whether they think it's worth adding to core, or worth mentioning in the docs, or whatever else from there.
