If you are running GTK+ try using
self.Editor.SetSTCFocus(True)
in addition to or instead of SetFocus(). Plus maybe
wx.CallAfter(self.Editor.EnsureCaretVisible)
It solved the 'dissapearing caret' problem for our application.
