I'd recommend you take a look at mechanize, see
http://wwwsearch.sourceforge.net/mechanize/
and specifically at ClientForm, see
http://wwwsearch.sourceforge.net/ClientForm/
These make it easy to perform browser-like accesses to forms-based web
applications.
