On Windows, the workaround for pesky paths (i.e. containing blanks or just inconveniently long) is the subst command: command-prompt>subst X: "C:\Documents and Settings" Thereafter X:\foo can be used wherever "C:\Documents and Settings\foo" would otherwise be required.
