I'd prefer not to fully jump into Zope just yet, because although it has just about all the features you can think of, it is also fairly complex (for me at least).
It seems that its quite possible to use the security system of Zope 3 outside of the Zope environment in standard Python.
I just copied the relevant zope package dirs to my own source tree and I was able to run the supplied Python examples.
