So, basically, Emacs is *not* the same. The point is that in vim you can't position the normal-mode cursor in such a way that inserted characters are inserted at the end of the line. How the cursor is displayed has nothing to do with it. And, insertion is to the left of the character that the cursor is on in vim, too.
