Hi Patricio, Angus and Helmut, thanks for reporting this annoying bug. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it, it works just fine on my sid. If I find time, I'll try to install etch and upgrade to lenny if it shows up.
This bug needs to be solved, it's a showstopper. So any help with this is appreciated. In the meantime, just install python-matplotlib from unstable and let us know if it fixes the problem.
