I have actually fixed it by patching the faulty setup.py, but your setup appears to run debian/rules clean on an unpatched tree. I don't know whether this is the good way to go or not, but in any case I've just commited a workaround on the DPMT svn repo, and will ping my usual sponsor ASAP.
