Hi All, I too had a great time on Thursday and it was great to see so many new faces. For those that sadly couldn't make it, here are some meeting notes which I'll also put up on http://pynw.org.uk.
"Sixteen Python enthusiasts of all abilities got together at MadLab to jointly solve The Python Challenge (http://www.pythonchallenge.com/), an online resource of programming riddles. As well as several seasoned practitioners, it was great to see some with only a couple of hours of Python experience (!). In addition to familiar faces, it was great to see plenty of new ones too. Attendees came from as far afield as Sheffield, Crewe and North Wales. We warmed up nicely by raising 2 to the power of 38, a simple task with a interestingly large number of solutions. Later on in the evening we were codebreakers eyeballing a JPEG and working out how to extract textual information hidden within using the Python Imaging Library. Every couple of puzzles, someone new took the driving seat as others looked on and helped (and heckled!). On a technical note, we were sophisticated enough to use defaultdicts and the enumerate() function but bemoaned the fact that we didn't use generators nearly enough ;) All in all we solved 10 out of 33 puzzles in our allotted time ... not bad!" fyi ... The next meeting will be a talks meeting on Thursday 17th February, 7pm at MadLab. As always, offers of talks are always gratefully received on the list! A five minute lightning talks that shows off the project you're working on? Or perhaps you'd like to hear about a particular topic that someone else knows about. Let us know ... !
