Hi Everyone, I had a really good time on Thursday evening at our coding session. Thanks to everyone there for making it so! Here are some meeting notes for those that couldn't make it:
""" This month's meeting saw 10 Pythoneers get together for a more traditional "coding dojo" meetup. We split up into pairs and worked our way through a set of coding exercises. After each exercise, we presented our code to explain what we did and why and sought feedback from others. Our first task was a warm-up exercise to work out which coins to give in change for a purchase. For a seemingly simple exercise, there was a huge variety of solutions and coding styles and further exercises were no different. A couple of groups were conscientious and wrote unit tests, other groups made good use of generators, and yet others made good use of the itertools library, regular expressions and string.maketrans. All in all it was an enjoyable and informative evening where we all had something to learn no matter what the level of experience. The complete set of exercises can be found at http://pynw.org.uk/Talks?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=dojo-2011-07-21.pdf . """ Next month's meeting will be a talks session on Thursday 18th August. If anyone would like to speak at the next session, even if it's only 5 mins, then feel free to post thoughts or ideas to the mailing list! I'm planning to give a talk on Apache Thrift (http://thrift.apache.org/) which I've had reason to use over the last couple of months and hope it'll be of interest to others.
