Hi everyone, as I mentioned at the coding meetup last week, I'm looking for someone to teach Python in June/July 2013. The classes will be taught as part of the "Digital Skills for Women in Manchester" project (organised by MadLab, Manchester Girl Geeks, and the Manchester Libraries), which aims to help women improve their chances of finding employment through a series of free IT classes - some information can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/digitalskillsmanchester The idea of the course is to give an introduction to programming as a way to increase the general level of understanding of IT, increase confidence, logical thinking and problem solving abilities - it's not about turning people into developers. The course will span 3 classes of 3 hours each (which includes a small lunch), so the main focus is really just the basic concepts of programming and getting some hands-on experience.
Here's some more details: - the course spans 3 sessions of 3 hours each - it will be taught at 2 libraries in Manchester (Gorton, Harpurhey, Longsight, Wythenshawe, or Deansgate) - i.e. total commitment for an instructor would be 6 sessions of 3 hours each - the classes will take place in June and July 2013 (scheduling is flexible) - we pay £125 per session (which includes prep and travel...) - classes will have a maximum of 12 people Our ideal instructor should be/have: - experience in Python (or some other language, with good Python skills. Also, if you would like to teach some other language, let me know - we're quite flexible and could easily move away from Python if there's a good reason!) - some experience in teaching, especially basic concepts of programming (control structures, variables, good practice...) - friendly and approachable - available 10am-1pm midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) for the 6 sessions If you're interested, or if there's any questions or suggestions, please email or ping me in Skype (samanthabail). Thanks a lot!
