Anyway, for me the best way (other than the user group) to keep up to date on Python news and developments is the Python Weekly* email newsletter - pycoders.com There's also /r/python - http://www.reddit.com/r/python * not to be confused with piweekly.net - the Raspberry Pi equivalent. Wouldn't want anyone to think I was just plugging my own newsletter. Well, I kind of am now.
