I'd be interested in hearing this talk. Part of the spec for the *prototype* included using my IOToy library for various reasons - which is an IOT stack for working with devices in a standardised fashion: https://github.com/sparkslabs/iotoy The link there to python is to treat hardware devices as introspectable objects, in the same way software objects are, with an automatically created python API.
