I'd like to change the rules for allowed variable names so that 1

I take it I need to write a configuration file.
How do I do that?
I think the standard way would be to generate a config file :
pylint --generate-rc-file > pylintrc
Then edit the generated pylintrc file and modify the ``variable-rgx``
option in the ``BASIC`` section.
Your pylintrc file should then either be in your project's root
directory, in $HOME/.pylintrc or in a few other places. Check
http://www.logilab.org/card/pylint_manual#command-line-options and
http://hg.logilab.org/pylint/file/2599058e6521/config.py#l79 for more
detailed information.
