I'm speaking a little out of turn here but ... ... for those who haven't followed the plot so far, can I point out just how much work and diplomacy this represents on the part of Nicholas, the MicroPython team and other supporters? When the PSF was first asked to look at Python on the micro:bit, MicroPython wasn't even on the table. It seems like a perfect fit, but convincing the right people of that has not been easy and has meant months of tact and patience -- and uncertainty. If you're interested in running a micro:bit coding evening -- even if you have to organise one specially -- then please do. If you can get teachers involved, better still. The APIs are still being finalised, but the more great examples we can get, the better Python will look to the teachers & kids who are going to be using the device.
