I wonder whether (he says, talking to the air) it would be worth mentioning something brief to this effect on the main Python site. I'm just having to do with 64-bit now as our work servers go that way, and I can't say I'm really clued-up on these kind of issues. I can just imagine newcomers diving into the 64-bit .msi (because I've got a 64-bit server, so why not?) and then falling down this particular hole.
