It still has link in a central spot on our wiki main page.
At the time, I saw more correspondense on the wiki, and assumed everyone checks the "recent changes" once in a while (this can be done without subscribing to the list, so I assumed there's more readers there). (If you bookmark this: http://www.python.org.il/mediawiki/index.php/Special:Recentchanges You'll be able to check what's new in a single click - you don't even have to visit the main page. I just use the rss feed (link in toolbox at main wiki page), which is even faster)
