Guy,
Well, there are several ways to make links in plone, and 'moving a page
in the hierarchy'... there are several ways to do that as well...
Assuming that you mean making links in the Kupu visual editor, those
links are static and won't update when you move content. Links made
through RelatedItems and References are catalog-based and will be
updated when you move objects assuming you do so in the Plone UI.
Moving objects in the Plone UI triggers hooks to update the catalog
(which will update links) where, moving things in the ZMI will not
trigger this update.
With all that in mind and not knowing more about your use cases, I
would recommend checking out the Wicked product.
http://plone.org/products/wicked
Wicked creates a special kind of markup which can be used inside html
and text fields. Basically any text that you place in double
parenthesis gets turned into a link that gets resolved through the
portal catalog, by doing a lookup on id/title. So you could make a
link like ((Meeting Notes)), and the link would be made to that object
in a way that would survive moving things around in the hierarchy.
kind regards

by the way, just a question: i installed plone on some host a few weeks
ago, and found that when moving an item from one position in the
hierarchy
to another, a link to in in another page is broken. i wonder if this
is a
configuration issue, or a "feature" of plone.
if it's something that can be fixed via configuration, i guess it'll
be a
good idea to do that in advance.

We've installed it, but there are some configuration issues.
I'll have more tomorrow at which point we would be able to make an
informed decision which way is best.

If it's a few months (maybe even if it's few weeks - say, more than
3?)
we should probably start working on Mikhail's server in Russia (no
need
to point the DNS - we could use a link from our current site for the
transition period). Then, when the new host will be available we can
simply move the contents, as Ofer had explained.
