I believe you want the rotatePivot in your case:
from pymel.core import *
sel = ls(sl=1)
for obj in sel:
globalPos = obj.getRotatePivot(rp='world')
newLoc = spaceLocator()
newLoc.setTranslation(globalPos, space='world')
