I worked the same way that you suggested.

i created a separate function which converts the result in the cursor to 
the list of dict type 

def FormatResult(self,Cur): 

     Updated_Result=[]

    columns = tuple( [d[0].decode('utf8') for d in Cur.description] )

    for row in Cur:

       Updated_Result.append(dict(zip(columns, row))) 

    return Updated_Result


cursor.execute(''SQL Stmnt")


Result=FormatResult(cursor)
